Robbyn Carter
Robbyn Carter was raised in San Francisco, California, where she studied sculpture before her design interests evolved into furniture and interior spaces. Carter then moved to Los Angeles and enrolled in the interior design program at UCLA. After being accepted at Art Center College of Design, she studied abroad in Berlin and Stockholm, which enriched her appreciation for European design and architecture.
As an Art Center student, Carter has received numerous design awards including a 2004 IWF Merit Award for her Bone chair. Her interactive lighting fixture, Kinetic Chandelier, as well as
her Bone chair, have appeared in exhibitions at the Japanese American Cultural Center. In addition, the A & D Museum exhibited Carter’s design of a transitional housing unit for the homeless. PATH Hollywood, a community organization dedicated to the homeless, is currently using the prototype as
a shelter for their clients. With a particular interest in the hospitality industry, Carter has recently collaborated on the design of a restaurant that is under consideration for future construction in Los Angeles.
