Ross Lovegrove
In the early 80s, Ross Lovegrove worked as a designer for Frog Design in West Germany on products such as Walkmans for Sony and computers for Apple Computers. Lovegrove later moved to Paris as a consultant to Knoll International, becoming author of the highly successful Alessandri Office System. He was invited to join the Atelier de Nimes along with Jean Nouvel and Phillip Stark, consulting to among others Cacharel, Louis Vuitton, Hermes and Dupont.
Returning to London in 1988, he has completed projects for British Airways, Parker Pens, Kartell, Ceccotti, Capellini, Alfi Zitmann, Phillips , Moroso, Driade, Mazada, Apple Computers, Connolly Leather, Olympus Cameras, Luceplam, Tag Heuer and Herman Miller.
Winner of numerous international awards, his work has been extensively published and exhibited internationally including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Guggenheim Museum in NY, Axis Centre in Japan, Pompidou Centre in Paris and the Design Museum in London, where in 1993 he curated the first Permanent Collection.
Recent awards include the 1998 Medaille de la Ville de Paris, the 1998 George Nelson award, the Hannover 1999 iF Industrie Forum Design award and the 2000 ID Good Design award as well as the 2001 Designer of the Year award presented by the Architekture & Wohnen, Hamburg. The Go chair designed by Lovegrove for Bernhardt Design was awarded 2001 Best of NeoCon and was included in Time Magazines Best of 2001.
Lovegroves work is held in permanent collections of various design museums around the world including Museum of Modern Art in New York and Design Museum in London. A solo exhibition entitled Ross Lovegrove - Design was on display at the Danish Museum of Decorative Art in Copenhagen. His work has also appeared in Ross Lovegrove Objects in Stockholm, Organic Dreams at IDEE in Tokyo, Sensual Organic Design at Yamagiwa Corporation in Tokyo, and Material Transition installation at Rheinauen Space, Koln, January 2001.
